Timothy O'Sullivan's images of scenic views and ancient ruins were among the first taken of the Southwest. Some of his photographs and stereographs from the 1871-1874 "United States Geographical Surveys West of the One Hundredth Meridian" recently arrived at CCAHA.

Chester County Historical Society named People’s Choice Award winner in Pennsylvania's Top 10 Endangered Artifacts campaign

The online campaign to save Pennsylvania’s Top 10 Endangered Artifacts has officially ended. The initiative attracted 5,283,128 online votes, amassing 623 social media shares and raising just over $16,000 toward the conservation of historic artifacts across the state.

The State Library of Pennsylvania recently brought their nine American Ornithology volumes to CCAHA for treatment. Those who had handled the much-used books in the past couple centuries left behind stains and grime.

Restoring Ideals "Conservation Cam" at Temple Contemporary now live

Over the next couple months, CCAHA conservators Renée Wolcott and Corine Norman McHugh will be working on-site at Temple Contemporary treating objects that are part of the gallery's Restoring Ideals project—and you can watch the conservation process live online here.

A campaign to save Pennsylvania’s Top 10 Endangered Artifacts launches today. Through November 1, the public is encouraged to support the preservation of 10 fascinating historic objects from every region of the state through voting, sharing and donating at PATop10Artifacts.org.

CCAHA one of 16 recipients of IMLS National Leadership Grants for Museums

Through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, CCAHA will receive $189,000 to lead the Pennsylvania Cultural Resilience Network, a two-year project to coordinate statewide efforts to address disaster preparedness needs at museums and historic sites.

The Woodlands cemetery in West Philadelphia looks the same as it did in the 1840s, when Eli K. Price planned it as a beautiful, park-like space. CCAHA is currently treating a severely stained c. 1865 crayon portrait of Price.

Teaching conservation strategies for water-damaged photographs at the Croatian State Archives

In July, CCAHA Senior Photograph Conservator Barbara Lemmen traveled to Zagreb, Croatia to help teach a two-week Getty Conservation Institute course, Conservation Strategies for Humidity and Water-Damaged Photographic Materials.
