This 1991 article details CCAHA’s work on historic documents belonging to the Philadelphia Maritime Museum (now the Independence Seaport Museum). The papers were those of John Barry, Patrick Hayes, Elizabeth Keen Hayes, and various other members of their family. John Barry (1745-1803) played a pivotal role in the American Revolution and headed a substantial trade endeavor with China. CCAHA treated the ledgers, letters, payroll books, and crew lists from the late 18th to early 19th century detailing the family’s various maritime endeavors, in wartime and peace.
