Marilyn Kemp Weidner, 1928-2017

CCAHA’s founder, Marilyn Kemp Weidner, passed away on November 16, 2017. Marilyn’s trailblazing career had an immeasurable impact on the field of conservation. Her contributions were wide-ranging, from prototyping technologies to setting standards of practice and teaching students. Her work helped to professionalize the field of paper conservation, and she was among the first to advocate for holistic collections care and preservation services. She was an active member of both the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) and the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC).

At CCAHA, we will always be indebted to Marilyn’s hard work and vision. Her dedication to understanding and serving the needs of the cultural heritage field—through conservation and preservation services, education, and advocacy—shaped CCAHA, forming the cornerstone of the mission we uphold to this day.
