CCAHA to continue photographic preservation efforts at Historically Black Colleges and Universities

A Mellon Foundation grant to LYRASIS will fund the second round of the HBCU photograph preservation project, a joint effort by CCAHA, LYRASIS, the HBCU Library Alliance, the University of Delaware Art Conservation Department, and the Image Permanence Institute.

CCAHA's book section recently treated Abraham Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, considered the first geographical atlas and the most comprehensive summary of 16th-century cartography. The volume is from Boston Public Library's Norman B. Leventhal Map Center.

The Fall issue of Art-i-facts is now available online!

This issue features M. Louise Baker's scientific illustrations, Hermann Schwarzmann's architectural drawings for the Centennial Exposition of 1876, and the Lutheran Archives Center's work to raise the match for treatment of Henry Mühlenberg's journals.

CCAHA staff are currently treating a collection of the performer and activist's letters, books, Broadway posters, and concert programs from the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection of Temple University Libraries.

Bruce Springsteen boxed set showcases CCAHA's digitization services

The Bruce Springsteen album released on November 16 includes an 80-page spiral notebook containing facsimiles of Springsteen's written lyrics and photographs.  Many of the pages come from scans taken while Springsteen's original lyric notebooks were at CCAHA last year.

The Civil War Museum of Philadelphia's Meade Album holds almost 1,400 carte-de-visite portraits of all the officers who served in the Union Army of the Potomac.

Among its many collections, the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Design Archives at Parsons The New School for Design holds examples of past student work.  Digitizing the archives' materials makes the work more readily available and serves as a preservation measure.
