Conservation Center - for Art and Historic Artifacts

CCAHA specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper and provides preservation education, training, and consultation. Established in 1977, CCAHA is the largest nonprofit regional conservation lab in the country.

Soyeon Choi

Senior Paper Conservator

Soyeon Choi, Senior Conservator, received her B.S. in chemistry at the Pohang University of Science and Technology, and finished her master’s course work in oriental art history at the Ewha Womans University, in Korea.  She was a recipient of a three-year full scholarship from Samsung Foundation of Culture to study abroad in the field of art conservation.  She received her M.A. and Certificate of Advanced Study in Conservation at the Art Conservation Department at the State University of New York, College at Buffalo, NY.  She has interned at the Ho-Am Art Museum in Korea; Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, VA; Shelburne Farm and Archives, VT; Library of Congress, D.C.  She has completed two one-year fellowships at CCAHA, funded by J.P. Getty Foundation and Andrew Mellon Foundation, prior to joining as a staff.  

Ms. Choi works in the area of assessment and treatment on fine art and archival materials.  Working at CCAHA since 2000, she has participated in numerous projects.  Notable group efforts include: Colonial manuscript from New York State Archives, Revolutionary War documents from New Jersey State Archives, and Christian ABC book from Ephrata Cloister.  Notable individual items for care include: U.S. Constitution annotated by John Dickenson, City Charter by William Penn, Pennsylvania Charter by King Charles II, and the will of Francis Scott Key.
