Conservators Staff: Jim Hinz
Book Conservator
Jim Hinz, Book Conservator. Mr. Hinz received an MFA in Book Arts/Printmaking from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, in 1995. He worked as a conservation intern at the American Philosophical Society in 1994, and as a conservation technician at CCAHA from 1996-1998. He was hired as a library conservator at the Hagley Museum and Library, Wilmington, Delaware in 1998. He was appointed head of library conservation at Hagley in 2003, where he had overall responsibility for conservation and preservation, and he supervised a staff of technicians and volunteers. While there he co-curated and designed the exhibition Raymond Loewy: Designs for a Consumer Culture, which received a NEA American Masterpieces Grant in 2005 and is currently on a national tour.
Mr. Hinz rejoined the staff of CCAHA in 2005. At CCAHA he has provided conservation treatment on rare books from the collections of Bryn Mawr College, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Delaware, and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, among others. In addition to his work as a conservator, Mr. Hinz is also a recognized fine artist; he was awarded the highly competitive Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2003. He is a Professional Associate member of AIC.
