Conservation Center - for Art and Historic Artifacts

The Conservation Center specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper. Established in 1977, CCAHA is one of the largest non-profit regional conservation labs in the country.

Joan Irving

Head of Paper Section and Senior Conservator

Joan Irving is the Head of the Paper Section and Senior Conservator at CCAHA.  She received a B.A. in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982 and an M.S. in Art Conservation in 1995 from the University of Delaware and Winterthur Museum. 

Ms. Irving has coordinated the exhibition “Legacies of Genius: A Celebration of Philadelphia Libraries,” which opened in 1988 and has interned at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Princeton University Libraries. 

Since coming to CCAHA in 1995, she has been involved in several “Save America's Treasures” projects, including conservation work on manuscript and printed versions of the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and architectural competition drawings for the design of the United States Capitol.
