CCAHA specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper and provides preservation education, training, and consultation. Established in 1977, CCAHA is the largest nonprofit regional conservation lab in the country.

Senior Conservator for Project Development

Rolf Kat, Senior conservator for Project Development, was trained as a conservator at the Training Program for Conservators (Opleiding Restauratoren) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Mr. Kat specialized in paper conservation during his internships at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, both in the Netherlands. Mr. Kat was awarded a post graduate grant through the Dutch Ministry of Culture to further his skills in paper conservation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California.

Before joining the Conservation Center in 1993, Mr. Kat was the senior paper conservator at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he installed a paper conservation lab, established guidelines for conservation as part of the Society’s collection policy, and treated numerous works of art and important historical documents.

At CCAHA Mr. Kat assists clients in developing medium to large conservation projects through collections surveys.
