The Conservation Center specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper. Established in 1977, CCAHA is one of the largest non-profit regional conservation labs in the country.

Glen Ruzicka

Director of Conservation

Glen Ruzicka, as the Director of Conservation, supervises the conservation treatment laboratory of CCAHA.  He is a graduate of Emory University where he majored in philosophy.  He trained as rare book conservator at the Library of Congress where he worked from 1975 to 1986.  As Senior Book Conservator at the Library of Congress, Mr. Ruzicka served as liaison to the Music and Manuscript Divisions as well as the liaison responsible for the Care of Top Treasures.  From 1986 until 1988, he served as Head of the Preservation Department of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.  

Mr. Ruzicka was named Chief Conservator of CCAHA in 1988.  While at CCAHA he has acted as consultant for preservation planning for Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Academy of Natural Sciences (Philadelphia), the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Militrary History Institute.  He also supervised conservation treatment of all the paper-based artifacts for the NPS Ellis Island Immigration Museum, the Statue of Liberty Museum, and more than a dozen Save America’s Treasures (SAT) projects.  Since 1999 Mr. Ruzicka has coordinated artifact conservation treatment services for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission serving twenty-six historic sites and museums. 

He is a professional associate member of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC).  He has served as Chair of the Book and Paper Specialty Group (BPG) of AIC.  He is currently Chair of BPG’s Education and Programs Committee and a member of BPG’s Professional Certification Committee.  He has served as a grant reviewer for NEH, SAT, and the Getty Conservation Program.  He is currently a member of the Girard College Board of Managers Historic Resources Committee, the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Preservation Consortium, and the Board of Trustees of the Kimberton Waldorf School.
