Conservation Center - for Art and Historic Artifacts

CCAHA specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper and provides preservation education, training, and consultation. Established in 1977, CCAHA is the largest nonprofit regional conservation lab in the country.

Samantha Sheesley, Conservator, received her B.F.A from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and her M.A. in Conservation from Buffalo State College.

Samantha joins CCAHA as a conservator after completing an NEA fellowship with the Center.  Prior to joining CCAHA, Samantha worked in conservation labs at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC; the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY; the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece; the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Belmont Hills Conservation Studio. 

Samantha has an interest in contemporary art and in the moral rights of artists.  She researched and documented interviews with contemporary artists to illustrate their merit in diligent conservation practice.  She contributes to the profession by speaking at various conferences regionally and nationally.  Most recently, Samantha spoke about the conservation treatment of a large, three-dimensional paper installation belonging to the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery during the 2008 AIC Annual Meeting in Denver, CO.
