Conservators Staff: Minah Song
Paper Conservator
Minah Song, Paper Conservator, joined CCAHA in 2005. She has B.A in sociology from Ehwa Woman’s university and a M.A in East Asian Art History from the Academy of Korean Studies in Korea. She holds a M.A in Conservation from Camberwell College of Arts, University of Arts London and has completed internships at the Hammersmith & Fulham Archives, London, Tate Britain London, Library of Congress, Washington, DC, and a fellowship at the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC. She was awarded an Andrew W. Mellon fellowship at Worcester Art Museum, MA. In 2006 she was selected for the international course on “Conservation of Japanese Paper”, organized by ICCROM and National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo.
Ms. Song is responsible for the conservation treatment of works of art on paper, maps, manuscripts and parchments. Her research interests include history and scientific analysis of Asian paper and pigments. Some of the results of her research have been presented during AIC annual meetings, “Permanence, Durability and Unique Properties of Hanji”, co-authored by Jesse Munn (poster, 2004), “Conservation of a Group of Early 19th Century Chinese Export Flora Paintings” (2007), and “Korean Paper; Hanji Its History and Unique Properties” (2006) at Rosenbach Museum & Library. She published “Permanence, Durability and Unique Properties of Hanj”’ co-authored by Jesse Munn in Book and Paper Anuual (2005). Her most recent paper “The History and Characteristics of Korean Books and Bookbinding” awaits publication in The Paper Conservator (U.K. 2008).
