This workshop is designed to help attendees identify the various photographic processes found in many collections.  It will cover major photographic processes from the daguerreotype to the digital print, examining the layer structure, image material, and deterioration characteristics of each.

Photographic media are sensitive materials that require special housing to ensure their longevity. This workshop will examine suitable housing supplies, including paper, plastics, interleaving papers, boxes, and more. Storage, proper labeling, and safe handling of photographs will also be discussed.

Textile objects can be delicate and are prone to damage by a variety of environmental factors, as well as inappropriate handling, storage, and display. Participants in this workshop will learn to properly care for their costumes and textiles and to identify issues that require consultation with a conservator.

Designed for any staff, volunteers, board members, or fundraisers involved in collections care, this workshop is an interactive primer to make participants more aware of the legal issues involved in conservation and management of cultural collections.

Audiovisual collections—including motion picture film; magnetic tape media such as audio and video reels and cassettes; and compact discs—have unique preservation needs and often require special collections management considerations. Participants in this workshop will learn about methods for properly storing and caring for audiovisual collections.
